Fritz Kruger is currently a Hardware Systems Architect at OpenAI. Over a 30-year career, he has repeatedly transformed breakthrough ideas into high-volume realities, including co-inventing and launching GDDR4, GDDR5, and HBM DRAM while at ATI/AMD; creating the industry’s first high-capacity JBOF with SanDisk’s Infiniflash; leading the design and global rollout of Google’s TPUv3 supercomputers; and shaping general-purpose compute strategy as Platform Architect at Nuvia.

Renowned for building world-class engineering teams and innovative products, Fritz holds more than 50 issued U.S. patents spanning memory, storage, interconnects, and system architecture. He studied Neurobiology and Electrical Engineering at Harvey Mudd College and Computational Neural Systems at Caltech, and serves on the advisory boards of several AI-centric startups.
